This is the first book dedicated to the work of Swiss-based artist Harumi Klossowska de Rola (b. 1973), which accompanies an exhibition. The book is filled with her iconic designs of bronze sculptures, screens, and benches, as well as examples of haute joaillerie, sketches, and items from her family’s collection of decorative arts and antiques.
Art has always been a part of Klossowska de Rola’s life since the time she spent at Villa Medici, the residence of the French Academy in Rome, with her father, the celebrated artist Balthus, and her mother, Setsuko Ideta, a Japanese sculptor and artist. Her multicultural roots, alongside the creative aura of her family, endowed her with a sharp sensitiveness toward the ephemeral and the fleeting. She draws inspiration from various sources including nature (wild animals, plants, and trees); Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology; African art; and Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. Klossowska de Rola currently lives and works at the Grand Chalet de Rossinière, the largest

This book was published on the occasion of Helen Frankenthaler: Drawing within Nature: Paintings from the 1990s at Gagosian, 541 West 24th Street, New York. Organized in collaboration with the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, the exhibition featured paintings and works on paper made by Frankenthaler from 1990 through 1995. Grounded in the artist’s experience of landscape, these late-career works amplify the expressive painterly means she had pursued since the 1950s, introducing new approaches to abstraction.
The catalogue is illustrated with color plates and details of twelve paintings and three large-scale works on paper, along with archival photographs of the artist in her studio. A new essay by art historian Thomas Crow elucidates her work in this era and offers interpretations of the paintings in the exhibition.

The Barnes Foundation is home to the world’s largest collection of works by the self-taught artist Henri Rousseau (1844–1910). Many of them were bought by Dr. Albert C. Barnes from the Paris art dealer Paul Guillaume, also an avid collector of Rousseau’s works. This publication offers a comprehensive study of the eighteen works at the Barnes and places them in dialogue with works from around the globe, including those from Guillaume’s collection (now housed at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris). This unprecedented overview of the artist’s work reunites paintings that have been apart for more than one hundred years, marking the first time that works from the Foundation’s galleries will form part of an exhibition devoted to Rousseau.
